REFLECTIONS FROM REALITY a performance
As a filmmaker I’m most interested in people and reality, how we perceive reality and how we can show it in film. A recurring concern in my work is the questioning of the origin of character and drama. In theater the performance on stage is real (live) but the character’s reality is a product of thought and fantasy. This contradiction made me wonder if there is a possibility to show real people on stage, like we do it in documentary film. In documentary film we find the excitement in real life, but is reality dramatic enough for the stage? Reflections From Reality is my first attempt to direct for stage.

Konstantin Bokov (post-production)
In November 2007 I started working with Konstantin Bokov to create a feature length documentary on his life and creation in New York City. Konstantin was born in the Ukraine; in 1975 he was expelled as a dissident artist from the Soviet Union. In the 80’s he became legendary known as Mr. Graffiti in Soho and the East Village art scene. As a “people’s artist” Konstantin believes art should be free for people and help the community. He hangs his sketches and sculptures on streetlights and trees, or creates his artwork in public parks all around Manhattan. Nowadays he lives a quite and secluded life in Washington Heights. For the documentary we travel back in time and follow the invitation of the artist to be inspired by the New York, America, friendship, art and life of Konstantin Bokov.
